Abstract

Aim. This study analyzes the phenomenon of silence in organizational discourse and provides a theoretical justification for the category of organizational munos (the author's neologism), which is understood as a structurally fixed zone of the unarticulated in organizational communication.

Methodology. The main method is the analysis of scientific works that study the problems of communication in organizations from a sociopsychological, semiotic and discursive perspectives, as well as the development of an integrated approach to the phenomenon of silence, which is further used to conduct long-term participant observation of the communicative practices of companies of various organizational types.

Results. It is shown that silence in an organization should be viewed not as a communicative failure, but as a systemic condition that determines the boundaries of what is articulated and what is not articulated in collaborative activities, and that such zones are formed not by individual decisions of the participants in the interaction, but by the architecture of the organization's discursive space.

Research implications. The conceptual framework of organizational discourse research is expanded, and sociological theories of structure and action are integrated into the analysis of discursive constraints. The introduction of the munos category allows us to consider silence as a structural element of the system that forms the boundaries of organizational reality, which can have practical significance for building effective communication in organizations of various structures and sizes.

Abstract

Aim. This article examines Chinese paremias containing chrononym components through the lenses of linguoculturology and linguoaxiology. This study aims to analyze the representation of the chrononyms Lichun (beginning of spring), Qingming (clear days), and Dongzhi (winter solstice), which operate at the intersection of seasonal solar points and traditional festivals, and to identify the key value dominants embedded within these paremias.

Methodology. The research material is based on an original database comprising approximately 3,000 units of paremia, selected via the continuous sampling method from the Collection of Agricultural Proverbs on the Twenty-Four Solar Terms. Linguoculturological, semantic, and interpretative methods of analysis were employed, allowing for the examination of paremias as cultural omen-texts with predictive functions and the identification of ethnolinguistic markers within festive traditions.

Results. The study demonstrates that paremias concerning the festival-seasons of Lichun, Qingming, and Dongzhi possess a dual nature: they record meteorological and agricultural experience while simultaneously transmitting cultural meanings. These festivals became entrenched in the language due to their high folkloric density compared to other chrononyms in the twenty-four-season cycle. It was established that ritual practices (flogging the spring bull, spring outings, ancestor veneration, and the consumption of seasonal dishes) function as stable ethnolinguistic markers of cultural memory. Gastronomic symbols (spring pancakes, green glutinous rice ball qingtuan, dumplings) exhibit axiological syncretism, bridging ideas of physical well-being, ritual purity, and the honoring of traditions.

Research implications. This research expands the understanding of the Chinese paremiological system as a carrier of linguocultural information and clarifies the role of festival-chrononyms in the formation of ethnocultural meanings. The compiled database and the findings obtained can be utilized in further studies on linguoculturology and intercultural communication, as well as in the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

Abstract

Aim. The aim is to identify, describe and systematize difficulties of sociocultural adaptation in legal texts translation practices and analyze the influence of the context on the adequacy of the translation as well as the reasons of translation errors.

Methodology. The methods of contextual, comparative, corpus, linguocultural as well as descriptive analysis were applied during the research based on selected authentic English and Russian texts in mass media, legal and scientific discourse.

Results. The work shows the need for carrying out a multidimentional analysis of national cultural peculiarities of the original text and target language speakers in order to avoid probable translation mistakes.

Research implications. To solve the problem of multiple terminology interpretations by recipients, including legal norms in Legalese, the hermeneutic-communication approach may be an adequate choice. In the article the author develops the theory of the cultural component of meaning detected in the process of the lexical-semantic analysis of terminological units in the humanitarian fields of knowledge, and focuses on the sociocultural and pragmatic aspects of legal terminology interlingual translation. The paper also lists examples of translation manipulations applied in order to ensure correct interlingual semantic transference of some confusing English legal terms into Russian.

Abstract

Aim. The aim is to explore the essence of the concept of “linguistic translation studies,” to demonstrate the general and specific features inherent in its various representatives, and to substantiate the position on the continued relevance of many of its postulates today.

Methodology. The body of texts related to this subject is examined. The relation of the Russian and foreign authors to the linguistic translation studies is covered. The existing opinions about this problem are analyzed and critically estimated.

Results. It is proved, that the tendency to fundamental revision of the linguistic translation studies principles and to abdicate its notions and categories as the passed stage in the development of translation science is one-sided and can`t be justified. So, its preservation as the part of the speciality 5.9.8 General, comparative and applied linguistics is quite reasonable.

Research implications. The factual data presented in this paper, as well as the conclusions of the authors clarify some substantial methodological aspects of the linguistic translation studies and show the necessity of using its apparatus in further investigation in this sphere. The results of this work may be used in teaching the courses of the theory and history of translation.

Abstract

Aim. The purpose of the article is to consider the specifics of the structural features of the terminological systems of the Chinese and Russian languages using the example of scientific and technical texts.

Methodology. The main method is the method of parallel comparison of scientific and technical texts, which is complemented by the use of typological and comparative methods. Various approaches and classifications of translated scientific and technical terms are considered, taking into account their morphological characteristics and structure. Empirical material was extracted from 5-volume bilingual Russian-Chinese and Chinese-Russian textbook of modern scientific and technical texts in the field of civil engineering in the amount of 2,780 fragments by continuous sampling.

Results. The differences in the forms and constructions of scientific and technical terminology in the field of civil engineering in Russian and Chinese were considered, and key approaches to terminology formation in the compared languages were identified.

Research implications. The theoretical and/or practical significance is predetermined by the active integration of Russia and China in the field of science and technology. Translation determines the specifics of the translation of scientific and technical Russian-Chinese direct and reverse translated texts, including the revision of a number of established principles and approaches in relation to Russian and Chinese terminology.

Abstract

Aim. The article aims to investigate the functional potential of temporal forms of the Spanish verb using headlines in Spanish-language media. By collecting a representative sample of newspaper headlines and conducting a quantitative analysis of the distribution of verb tenses in the collected corpus, the authors address two key objectives: a qualitative interpretation of the pragmatic role of verb forms and their comparison across two time periods – 2021 and 2025 (data for these periods are being systematized for the first time). The object of study consists of temporal verb forms, analyzed for their role in headlines of contemporary Spanish-language newspaper texts.

Methodology. The use of cutting-edge tools for statistical analysis of linguistic material, particularly the AntConc platform, underpins the study's novelty. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary approach combines linguistic analysis with media perception theory, revealing the mechanism by which tenses enhance the reader's emotional presence. The research methodology is based on a continuous sample of Spanish-language headlines from the online versions of the newspapers “20 minutos” and “El País” for 2021 and 2025 (200 and 150 units, respectively), subjected to a stepwise analysis across two time periods to identify the pragmatic role of word forms and analyze their dynamics comparatively.

Results. After defining the criteria for selecting the linguistic material, a qualitative, quantitative, and comparative analysis of the collected corpus of headlines was carried out, the results of which allowed us to draw an unambiguous conclusion about the absolute dominance of the grammeme Presente de Indicativo in the meaning of “historical present” for expressing the relevance of an event in both time slices, as well as a significant increase in the use of grammemes Pretérito Perfecto, caused by such processes as globalization and digitalization of the global media space. Furthermore, a complete decline in the use of complex past tenses was noted, indicating a desire to reduce the perception of modern newspaper headlines.

Research implications. The obtained results introduce previously undescribed functions of Spanish verb temporal forms in digital communication into the field of scientific discussion, not so much as means of chronologically anchoring a situation, but rather as a pragmatic marker of audience engagement. This provides grounds for reconsidering the traditional notion of the purely grammatical meaning of these indicators and considering time as a mediative resource that ensures a “here and now” effect. It is possible to highlight the prospect of applicability of the two-stage analysis procedure (manual selection and AntConc filtering) to the material of other Romance languages as a tool for operational monitoring of shifts in the grammatical systems of natural languages. The identified preferences (the increase in the frequency of the grammatical expressions Presente and Perfecto, the disappearance of Imperfecto) may prove useful for journalists and editors as an evidence base when creating “clickable” headlines aimed at a multilingual audience. Finally, the list of high-frequency tenses and illustrative examples can be used as teaching materials for courses in translation, media writing and stylistics as a scientifically confirmed current norm of modern Spanish.
