The article deals with the multi-aspect analysis of the foreign ergonym as a constituent of the modern linguistic landscape of Cherepovets city. The analysis of foreign ergonyms consists in defining their lexical-semantic and structural-graphic peculiarities. The investigation revealed 6 thematic groups of the foreign ergonyms and 8 languages as their donors. The typical foreign ergonym in the data under examination is a substantive word combination from the English or Italian languages which is printed with graphic means of Latin script.

The article deals with the manifestations of the category of oppositeness at different language levels and at the level of the text. Oppositions of derivational morphemes and functional words are regarded as grammatical ones. Contrary qualitative, complementary, directional and conversive oppositions are described at the lexical level. The classification of textual oppositions is based on semantic and grammatical oppositions and represent the opposed spatial images, the opposed characters and the opposed beginning and ending of a folktale.

The article reports on a study of the influence of the opposite terminology development tendencies on the peculiarities of the English school education system terminological units. The authors develop the theory of the cultural component of meaning detected in the course of the lexical-semantic analysis of the humanities terminological units. The article contains a classification of terminological units of the English education terminological system. The authors analyze the examples of variation (polysemy and synonymy) and uniqueness (non-equivalence) of terms in the context of the centrifugal and centripetal tendencies in terminological systems development.

The article presents the analysis of realization of conventional and modified German proverb Viele Köche verderben den Brei in modern German press. The modified proverb appears as variants, which don’t change meaning of proverbial text, and as transforms, which change meaning of the proverb. Functioning of all forms of the proverb is one of the important aspects of this article. The analysis showed that both - original and modified forms of the proverb have the same functions, which depend on its place in the article. Transformed proverb also has an expressional function. In the article the ways of the proverb modifications are considered.

STRATEGY OF TRANSLATION AND THE INTERDISCIPLINARY ASPECTIN AVIATION-TECHNICAL TEXTS (HYBRID ENGINES)

The article focuses on methods of intralingual and interlingual translation of Old English anthroponyms and toponyms in Anglo-Saxon poem “Beowulf”. The author analyses the structure of anthroponyms, marks out the most typical components and studies their etymology. The analysis shows that these units play an important role in the text. However, transliteration without special commentary cannot convey their meaning and cannot be considered an appropriate method of translation.

The present article presents the comparison of different types of adversative connection in French and Spanish on the level of a complex sentence. The author analyses functions and use of two Spanish adversative conjunctions - “sino” and “pero”. The possibility of existence of two conjunctions “mais” in French is discussed; factors determining the use of different semantic variants of “mais” are identified. Special attention is given to adversative propositions with negation of the polemic and the descriptive types. In the research the author reveals both the similarities and differences in the expression of adversative connection in two languages

The paper tackles the problem of the degree of equivalence of special aviation lexis used by aviation ground services in the Russian translation of the novel “Airport” by A. Hailey. A selective analysis of precision of translation was conducted, with regard to synchronic and diachronic aspects. The object of research is a correct interlingual transfer of aviation ground staff lexis to the Russian language and their correspondence to the original. The analysis shows that the existing translation of the novel into Russian is inaccurate and it distorts the author’s meaning and intention. Therefore a new correct translation should be made.

The article analyses causes of translation errors, the problem of avoiding mistakes in professional translation training and describes difficulties of legal text translation practices. The role of translation in the language teaching is also reviewed as mastering of a foreign language requires translation training which is impossible without knowledge of the outside world.

The subject of the article is the representation of the figurative constituent of the concept «tax» / «nalog» in English and Russian paremiology. The analysis of the metaphoric component of the concept helps to understand its nature as the mental formation, which reflects cultural characteristics of both ethnic groups, and thus identify the associations defining this concept in English and Russian worldviews. The research is based on the analysis of more than one hundred proverbs and sayings in English and Russian. The author comes to the conclusion that negative attitude towards the concept «tax» / «nalog» prevails both in the English and Russian linguacultures. Thus, in Anglo-American worldview the process of taxation is associated with inevitable evil while in Russian linguaculture tax is perceived as legalized robbery.

The article is about the role and place of the explanatory translation dictionary compiled by Lev Ljvovich Neljubin. It deals with some problems of lexicographical presentation of terminological translation vocabulary, criteria of its choice for the explanatory translation dictionary, as well as information about the quantity of articles and methodics substantiation of including terms and terminological word combinations into the dictionary.
