MODERN TEXT ADAPTATION OF BIBLICAL PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN LANGUAGES

Abstract

The article is devoted to comparative analysis of biblical phraseological units in English and Russian. The sources of their origin - English and Russian translations of the Bible - are analysed. Lexical and grammatical structure and semantics of biblical phraseological units are analysed and compared, as well as new shades of meaning and biblical phrases adaptation to modern linguistic contexts. Examples from modern English and Russian texts illustrate these differences. Some ideas about the reasons for differences in adaptation of English and Russian biblical phraseological units to modern texts are put forward.
