Diego Maradona as a precedent name in Argentinian and global media space

Abstract

Aim is to interpret linguistic and multichannel representations of the name of the legendary Argentine football player Diego Maradona, to prove its status as a precedent name and precedent phenomenon, to analyze the realization of the name Maradona based on the data of language corpora and to interpret its associative field.
Methodology. The main research methods are functional-semantic, interpretative, linguacultural analysis, cultural commentary.
Results. The author highlights that the name Diego Maradona has an essential symbolic and cultural meaning both for football fans and for representatives of various languages and cultures. In the semiosphere of the Argentine national variant of the Spanish language, the name Diego Maradona acts as a symbol of the identity of Argentines, and in the world space of languages and cultures, it simultaneously motivates the designation of new precedent phenomena.
Research implications. The article develops the paradigm of precedent philology, and its results can be applied in teaching of Spanish with an in-depth study of culture.
