COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF METAPHORS AND SIMILES IN ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN (IN J.K. ROWLING’S NOVEL «HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE»)
Abstract
This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between expressive means, namely metaphor and simile, specifies their characteristics, structure and implementation in English and Russian (examples are taken from J.K. Rowling’s novel) The research also highlights the types of these tropes and proposes criteria for classification, emphasizes the necessity of comprehensive study of the issue. Primarily it focuses on the process of metaphor formation: metaphoricalness is both the result of author’s interpretation and reader’s perception.
