Word-formation models of substantive adverbs with the suffix -weise in German

Abstract
Aim. The aim of the article is to describe the word-formation and semantic abilities of substantive adverbs with the suffix -weise in German.
Methodology. The key research method is the method of linguistic modeling. The sources of this empirical study are the data from the German corpus DWDS. The author identifies the main wordformation models of substantive adverbs with the -weise suffix and describes their morphological specificity.
Results. It is established that the grammatical categories of the noun have a significant influence on the choice of interfixes which are involved in the derivation. Corpus analysis identified adverbs formed from the singular and plural form of a noun (sackweise – säckeweise) as well as described their semantic differences.
Research implications. The theoretical significance lies in the classification of word-formation models from substantive adverbs with the suffix -weise.
