PERIPHRASIS AS A TRANSALATION PROBLEM: VULNERABLE ISSUESAND SOLUTIONS

Abstract

Aim. To identify methods and techniques for translating periphrasis from English into Russian in newspaper and journalistic texts. Methodology. In the research, the methods of continuous sampling, comparative and quantitative analysis were used. Results. The results of the study led to the conclusion about the variety of methods of translating periphrasis. Along with the translation technique of tracing, lexical-semantic substitutions, using analogue, the combination of different translation techniques is used. Such a variety of ways of translating periphrasis is explained by the fact that periphrasis carries a great pragmatic and cultural potential. Research implications. The theoretical significance lies in the fact that the study of the peculiarities of the periphrasis use deepens the understanding of this linguistic phenomenon functioning, which, in turn, makes it possible to deepen the understanding of the use of relevant translation techniques. The practical significance is the possibility of applying the research results in the general and particular theory of translation, in translation classes, in courses on cultural linguistics and the theory of intercultural communication.
