https://doi.org/10.18384/2310-712X-2021-2-33-43

Abstract

Aim. This study examines the extent to which peculiarities of male and female voice influence the process of uttering informal requests in German. Methodology. The experiment conducted by the author included measuring and analyzing voice pitch frequency, volume and syllable duration in key points of the recorded utterances. Results. The results of the experiment show that while gender peculiarities may influence the informal request production process in German to a certain degree, they do not cause significant changes in the way informal requests are uttered and perceived. Research implications. The data acquired during the experiment may be used in the development of speech recognition systems. It may also be of interest to forensic specialists conducting phonoscope examinations and to learners of German.
