Prosody as a key component in speech influence (the comparison of a request and a threatening demand)

https://doi.org/10.18384/2949-5075-2025-1-6-16

Abstract

Aim. To identify the distinctive features of speech acts of a request and a threatening demand at the prosodic level based on the modern German language.

Methodology. The experimental and phonetic research was based on the statements made by five native German speakers who are pronunciation experts. The methodology is a comprehensive analysis: auditory, acoustic, mathematical-statistical and comparative, using the Praat and SPSS computer programs.

Results. The conducted research allowed to obtain individual prosodic characteristics of speech acts of a request and a threatening demand. The speech acts differ at a given statistical level by tonal, dynamic and temporal features. The most differentiated section of speech flow delimitation can be considered the pre-beat and post-beat.

Research implications. The results of the study can be used in solving problems of automatic speech recognition and synthesis, as well as in the practice of teaching theoretical linguistic disciplines.
