Abstract
Aim. To identify the features of pediatric discourse by means of overt observation.
Methodology. The authors analyzed the corpus of scripts of a pediatrician’s conversations with a child and his parents. Observations of the doctor’s speech, his ability to correctly collect anamnesis using communication tactics with the child and his parents were carried out. Methods of observation, generalization, interpretation and systematization of linguistic material, discursive analysis were used in the research. In accordance with the task, the method of communicative and pragmatic analysis of professional speech was used.
Results. The conducted analysis revealed some differences between the discourse of a pediatrician and the discourse of an “adult” doctor, namely, the use of diminutive suffixes, gestures, and game techniques. Based on the study of conversation scripts, the features of pediatric discourse are established, namely, personalization, dialogicity. It was revealed that the pediatrician should have developed lexical skills, speech abilities and verbal thinking, be able to use communicative tactics and strategies to establish and maintain contacts with children and their parents.
Research implications. The results of the study contribute to the development of medical discourse and discourse analysis.
