DESCRIBING THE FORMAL STRUCTURE OF A TERM (BASED ON THE ENGLISH TERMINOLOGY OF LEXICOLOGY)

Abstract

Aim. The research aims at describing the appearance (form) of English lexicological terms with the identification of structural characteristics that are common to terminology and specific to a specific industry terminology. Methodology. To conduct the research, we used statistical, definitional, structural and semantic methods. Results. The analysis suggests that English lexicological terms have structural features that, on the one hand, indicate that this terminology belongs to the vocabulary of the English language and are connected with the features of English grammar. On the other hand, English lexicological terms are influenced by the traditional English approach to lexicology, in which many special lexemes are separated from lexicology and assigned to other sections of linguistics. Research implications. The theoretical significance of the research is related to the possible use of the results in linguodidactics, terminology, terminography, and LSP theory. The practical value can be determined by the possible use of materials and results of the research in the practice of teaching English as a foreign language.
