Abstract
Aim. To address the methods of defining the subject type within Russian quasi-subject constructions such as Kniga legko chitaetsja (The book is easy to read), to describe the semantics of various syntactic constructions of this type, to outline their place in the general system of Russian syntactic constructions.
Methodology. The paper analyses samples of quasi-subject constructions, outlines the subject types, and verifies the subject type interpretation based on the proposed semantic tests and experiment.
Results. The analysis and testing of Russian quasi-subject constructions help outline the factors that define which subject type would take place within the original construction. The paper establishes the quantitative ratio of the subject types that is supported by the features of the Russian linguistic map of the world and helps describe the semantics of quasi-subject models.
Research implications. The article suggests a systematic way to define a semantic component within the quasi-subject construction, which can be used for further analysis of such syntactic constructions in other languages. The results can also be applied to semantic and syntactic problems in Russian and other languages.
