An overview of describing coherent functions of phraseological units in modern pop song lyrics

Abstract
Aim. To identify the coherent (text-forming) functions of phraseological units in modern English language pop song lyrics.
Methodology. The study was conducted with the help of the following methods: continuous sampling, phraseological identification, structural and component analysis, categorization, classification and description. An analysis of the grammatical and semantic features of certain selected phraseological units was carried out in order to identify the degree of their participation in the creation of coherence of a poetic song text.
Results. The study revealed that phraseological units are actively involved in creating the coherence of a poetic song text. The analysis showed the prevalence of phraseological expressions and idioms (phraseological units and fusions) among the selected units with coherent functions.
Research implications. The research results relate to the expansion of ideas about the text-forming functions of phraseological units, as well as to the possibility of applying the results obtained in teaching lexicology, stylistics, text and discourse theory.
