Abstract
Aim. To determine the correlation of verbal and information-psychological impact as forms of communicative influence on individuals and society.
Methodology. The correlation of verbal and information-psychological impact is established based on the analysis of authoritative scientific sources for the past 30 years, but the study can be considered conducted in a diachronic way, as various mechanisms of communication impact on a person and society are traced by the author since ancient times up to the invention of the first technical means of mass communication. The work uses mainly inductive-descriptive and comparative methods of presentation.
Results. The essence of verbal impact as one of the components of information-psychological influence in mass communication has been established. The general mechanism of information-psychological influence in mass communication, which is realized in a complex polycode and multimodal form of media text, has been revealed.
Research implications. The significance of the study lies in the introduction into linguistic science, namely into one of its areas – the linguistics of information-psychological warfare – the universal term “information-psychological impact”, which fills the gap caused by the expansion of the toolkit of actual means of influence on the addressee beyond the purely verbal ones, and unites all existing approaches to the substantiation of non-verbal influence in mass communication, thereby eliminating the undesirable terminological polyvalence.
