Your own by means of foreign: English in translations of R. Tagor and in the works of R. Narayan as a translation problem

Abstract

The article deals with the usage of
the English language by the greatest representatives
of Indian literature of the 20th century R. Tagor and R.
Narayan. It is stressed that in the first case we mean auto
translations from Bengali, and in the second case English
was originally used in descriptions of Tamil reality.
This peculiarity was reflected in linguistic characteristics
of the considered texts: speaking about R. Tagor we
mean derealization, shown in elimination of specific
Indian cultural notions, but in the works of R. Narayan
on the contrary the main feature is the national colour
which is difficult to express in translations.
