On Modern Translations of the Scriptures into English
Abstract
The present article deals with the problem of
retranslation of the Bible into English. The artcle focuses on
the versions created in the New English period. The author
analyses modern translations of the Bible that were made in
the XX- th century and that cater to special social and gender
groups of modern society. The author claims that such translations
are not altogether adequate since they mostly involve
editing and adaptation of earlier versions of the text.
