Abstract
The article deals with specific ways of translating
positively connotated elevated speech in W. Thackerays
novel The Virginians. The article covers the main points of
adequate translation and literary translation stylistics. The
author does a comparative analysis of two Russian translations
- by S. Volskii (1936) and I. Gurova (1979) in order to
find the optimal way of transferring elevated linguistic units.
The author suggests the analysis of the identified linguistic
units of elevated speech and a classification of transference
methods.
