THE STRUCTURE OF ATTRIBUTIVE COMPLEX IN MODERN ENGLISH (ON THE ANALYTICAL NATURE OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR)
Abstract
This article presents the results of formal analysis
of attributive complexes in modern English. The importance
of this analysis is determined by lack of formal research
that would provide data on the balance between different
types of attributive phrases in modern English. Meanwhile,
the study of the relative frequency of certain types of attributive
complexes in the English language will provide information
on which type of phenomena (language or speech) the
particular attributive complexes belong to. Obviously, there
are complexes built on the basis of fixed language models,
while peripheral attributive complexes originate in speech and
are created ad hoc.
