THE PROBLEM OF REACHING ADEQUATE WORDPLAY TRANSLATION IN AUDIO-MEDIAL TEXTS
Abstract
Wordplay appears to be one of the most difficult tropes for translation, especially when it occurs in audio-medial texts. The translator should consider various aspects of wordplay in a film or TV series to give an adequate translation. For example, here it is impossible to use a wide, descriptive translation and footnotes, like in a written text; strict timing and linkage of the translation to what is happening on the screen are very important points. Our article examines examples of wordplay translations that can not be considered adequate and provides our own versions of translation.
