THE PRINCIPAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FRENCH AND RUSSIAN VERBAL SYSTEMS: THE CATEGORIES OF TENSE AND VOICE

Abstract
The article examines the principal differences in French and Russian in terms of the categories of tense and voice. The analysis of tense forms reveals qualitative and quantitative differences, such as the presence of parallel paradigms of simple and complex tense verbal forms in French and the lack of the category of tense correlation in Russian as well as a number of meanings of French complex verbal forms that go beyond tense correlation. A special attention is paid to the definition of voice in French as a categorial and free form.
