THE LACUNARITY OF “FOREIGN REALIA” IN THE SOURCE TEXT AND THE PROBLEM OF THEIR RENDERING

Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of so-called “alien realia”, i.e. lexical units denoting the things and phenomena not belonging to the language and culture of the source text. The problem arises when the author reflects the foreign life and customs, or when he himself uses the language of the linguocultural community that differs from his own. Authors of the paper using examples from translations of English literary texts analyze possible ways that may be used in the process of translation to solve the problem.
