Abstract
Aim. To show the specifics of the special vocabulary inventory found in the official documents which reflect the main directions of the European language policy as an unformed subdomain of sociolinguistic knowledge related to the language policy implemented at the supranational level.
Methodology. The main content of the study is identification of the special vocabulary inventory peculiarities from the corpus of official documentation texts. Analysis and generalization of scientific publications, elements of corpus technologies and terminology management are used as research methods.
Results. It has been proved that the official documents that contain elements of terminology can serve as a basis for the inventory of terminology of the fields of knowledge that have not been adequately reflected in scientific sources. The inventory of special vocabulary carried out with the help of terminological extractors Sketch Engine and AntConc and followed by subsequent manual processing allowed to identify the terminology of such subject areas reflecting the multidimensional nature of supranational European language policy as “Education”, “Migration”, “Information Technology”, “Economics and Business”, “Politics”, “Culture and Art”, “Sociolinguistics” alongside with general scientific terminology and interdisciplinary terminology.
Research implications. Theoretical significance of the study is in determining the specifics of the interdisciplinary fields of knowledge terminology inventory based on the use of the official documents corpus. The practical significance of the study lies in determining the share of terminology of an interdisciplinary field of knowledge in the total volume of extracted special nominations and in classification of special nominations thematically in order to identify aspects relevant to the language policy of supranational unions.
