Abstract

Aim is to analyze the specifics of English language nativization in post-colonial countries and to identify key nativization processes in a bilingual environment based on English-language Nigerian media.

Methodology. The study presents approaches of Russian and international linguists to defining the phenomenon of “nativization”. The linguistic characteristics of the bilingual environment and the mechanisms of language interference are identified.

Results. The research establishes the phonetic, grammatical, and lexico-semantic specifics of English language nativization.

Research implications. The study clarifies and expands scientific understanding of the nativization of English in a bilingual context. The results may be applied in the study and teaching of courses related to contact linguistics and English language variation, as well as in the preparation of academic and teaching materials in the fields of socio- and media linguistics.
