INTERPRETATION OF SPANISH CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE BAHAMAS PLACE NAMES

Abstract

Aim. To identify and analyze Hispanic place names of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Methodology. The article examines examples of Spanish Bahamian place names, reveals the etymology of units of this type. In the study a descriptive method, a method of etymological analysis, linguistic modeling, quantitative analysis, a method of linguopragmatic and linguocultural analysis and modern electronic tools for toponymic research were used. Results. In the course of the work, the lexico-stylistic means typical for the formation and functioning of the Hispanic toponymic layer of the region were identified. Research implications. The research results contribute to the possibility of using the selected and systematized language material in the preparation of theoretical and practical courses in general linguistics, lexicology, linguopragmatics, cultural linguistics, and country linguistics.
