Abstract
Aim. To state the role of national narratives of the East and the West in forming the multi-plot scenario of the modern “Asian Century” media narrative.
Methodology. The research was carried out based on a contrastive linguistic analysis of the “Asian Century” media narrative in the English-language media of the West and East, as well as a diachronic comparison of national narratives to explain the reasons for the development of different plots of the “Asian Century” media narrative in the East and in the West. The English-language media narrative “Asian Century” as a modern phenomenon has been studied in a synchronous-diachronic dimension to explain both its integrity and the multiplicity of its manifestations.
Results. The paradigmatic series of the temporal name ‘Asian Century’ in the media texts of the East and West were determined. Chronotopic schemes in which the media narrative “Asian Century” is implemented were revealed. The scenario differences of the media narrative “Asian Century” between East and West were proved against the background of differences in national narratives. The study of the mythological code embedded in the texture of the English-language media narrative “Asian Century” revealed the underlying causes of discrepancies in forecasting the Global Future in the East and in the West. The media narrative “Asian Century” showed multiple plots due to significant differences in the perception of the chronotopic scheme “Past – Present – Future” in the countries of the East and West.
Research implications. The theoretical significance lies in the development of the methodology of comparative linguistic rratology in relation to media texts. The practical value lies in the possibility of using the results in the practice of intercultural communication and translation.
