Abstract

Aim. To reveal the features of the interpretation of the concept sphere of a journalistic text about the Arab world architecture in the magazine “Around the World”.

Methodology. The linguistic-cognitive analysis of D. Vinogradov’s article “The Patchwork of Cairo Quarters” and “Not only skyscrapers: 6 unusual architectural projects of Abu Dhabi” was carried out, the main components of the concept sphere of these journalistic texts were determined.

Results. In the course of the analysis, it was concluded that D. Vinogradov’s articles “The Patchwork of Cairo Quarters” and “Not only skyscrapers: 6 unusual architectural projects of Abu Dhabi” have a concept sphere with two dominant concepts, CITY and ARCHITECTURE, which describe the architecture of Cairo and Abu Dhabi. These dominant concepts represent urban space as a space of culture combining both traditional and modern elements.

Research implications. The theoretical significance of this article lies in the generalization of the theoretical material on the problem of the construction and structure of the concept sphere of journalistic texts, the definition of the main characteristics of the concept sphere of such texts. The practical significance of the article is determined by the compilation of its own classification of the structural components of the conceptual sphere within the framework of the description of the architectural space on the example of the analysed material.
