https://doi.org/10.18384/2949-5075-2023-4-6-16

Abstract

Aim. To identify specific features of world modeling in clinical veterinary terminology based on the analysis of the metaphorical and metonymic conceptual models with the source domain “plant”.
Methodology. The main content of the study is the analysis of conceptual models with the source domain “plant” in veterinary terms denoting pathological processes and methods of treatment. The material of the study is professional veterinary dictionaries and manuals, as well as referrals for histopathological examination, which indicate the clinical data of an animal.
Results. The analysis showed that both metaphorical and metonymic conceptual models with the source domain “plant” are embodied in clinical veterinary medicine. Conceptual metaphors “pathology is a plant”, “diseased organism is a plant” – includes three frames: plant life cycle, plant parts, plant species; metonymic models “plant as the cause of the disease / a remedy for its treatment” are presented in the form of frames “material”, “parts of a plant”, “plant species”.
Research implications. The article raises the problem of the specifics of world modeling in veterinary terminology. The results of the study can be used in compiling glossaries for sections of clinical veterinary disciplines.
