Abstract

Aim. To consider, analyze, and systematize the main ways of formation of English compound derivative military terms.

Methodology. The materials for the study were the articles of Jane's Defense Weekly published from 2020 to 2022, selected by the continuous sampling method. A structural analysis of compound derivative military terms is carried out. In the course of the study, methods of observation, generalization, description of results, and quantitative analysis were mainly used.

Results. The analysis carried out allows us to draw the following conclusion: in the texts we have considered syntactic methods of terms formation prevail.

Research implication lies in the identification and systematization of the most common and frequent ways of forming compound derivative military terms, which allows to use the results obtained in the process of studying a foreign language by cadets at a military university.
