Abstract
Aim. To consider German deverbatives in -en, -ung, -t, -e and non-affix formations through the prism of the category of taxis.
Methodology. The article analyzes various deverbatives used with the prepositions of temporal semantics in, bei, mit, während, vor, seit, nach, bis. During the research, the following methods were used: hypothetical-deductive, inductive, descriptive, contextual and transformational method.
Results. Based on the analysis of empirical material, the study revealed that the German deverbatives realize their taxis potential if they save the verbal characteristics of generating verbs. When combined with taxis prepositions of temporal semantics, the deverbatives actualize such categorical values of primary taxis as simultaneity, precedence and following. The taxis potential of deverbatives of different derivational semantics is variable, it “varies” from absolute and “stable” to relative and “unstable”.
Research implications. The research results make a certain contribution to the taxis theory. The main provisions of the research can be used in teaching the language theory and functional grammar at a university level.
