Abstract
Aim. To determine the role of linguocultural information in understanding the hint in German humorous discourse.
Methodology. The analysis of hints in the comics „Nichtlusig” (“Unfunny”) is carried out taking into account cultural and linguocultural information. The main research methods are the method of continuous and directed sampling, as well as the interpretive method.
Results. The analysis showed that the linguocultural information in the comics of the series „Nichtlusig” is a fundamental component for understanding the hint in the German humorous discourse. To understand the hint, the addressee must possess linguocultural knowledge, including knowledge of non-equivalent vocabulary, precedent names, facts from German public life, German fairy tales and realias.
Research implications. The term visible and hidden situation is proposed. The results can be used in the subsequent studies of the hint.
