Abstract

Aim. The purpose of the article is to identify the cultural identity and common ethnic values of the Norwegians, Mexican, Chileans, Venezuelans and Puerto-Ricans and to show how the implementation of these concepts determines the use of slang in the process of communication.

Methodology. To solve the problem, we used methods of linguistic observation and description, comparative analysis, linguaxiological approach and the method of continuous sampling.

Results. Based on the analysis of the study material, common ethnic values such as “honesty”, “friendship”, “personal dignity”, “family and romantic relationships” were marked out, their significance was determined, and the various ways in which they function were illustrated. The study concludes that ethnic values are realized during communication, determining the behavior of communication partners and the choice of emotionally expressive speech.

Research implications. This study helps us understand the role ethnic values play in constructing communication and the ways in which they can be verbalized in the speech of Norwegian and Latin American people.
