В статье рассматриваются вопросы, связанные с так называемым опущением при переводе, т. е. отказом воспроизвести при межъязыковой передаче те или иные единицы или фрагменты исходного текста. Отмечается, что указанный приём может быть вызван различными причинами. Оставляя в стороне случаи, обусловленные недостаточной переводческой компетенцией (т. е. отсутствием соответствующих фоновых знаний), можно указать как на внешние факторы (нередко обусловленные соображениями цензурного характера), так и на стремление облегчить восприятие текста широким читателем путём отказа от комментариев, примечаний и т. п.
The present article is dedicated to so-called translator's omission. The latter is understood as the non-representation of either some fragments or definite units of the source text in the target language. It is underlined that the omission may be caused by different reasons. Leaving aside possible incompetence of the translator (lack of background knowledge), some external factors may be mentioned as well, e.g. some requirements of censorial nature. On the other hand, omission sometimes shows the translator's wish to make the source text easier for the general reader’s comprehension by eschewing the footnotes, commentaries, etc.
