В работе анализируются сходства и различия таких средств выразительности, как метафора и сравнение, указываются особенности их структуры и реализации в английском и русском языках на примере произведения Дж. Роулинг «Гарри Поттер». В исследовании также выделяются виды данных тропов и предлагаются критерии для классифицирования, обосновывается необходимость комплексного изучения данного вопроса. Основное внимание фокусируется на процедуре образования метафоричности: метафоричность - результат не только авторского осмысления, но и восприятия со стороны читателя.
This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between expressive means, namely metaphor and simile, specifies their characteristics, structure and implementation in English and Russian (examples are taken from J.K. Rowling’s novel) The research also highlights the types of these tropes and proposes criteria for classification, emphasizes the necessity of comprehensive study of the issue. Primarily it focuses on the process of metaphor formation: metaphoricalness is both the result of author’s interpretation and reader’s perception.
