В статье рассматриваются некоторые аспекты функционирования слов-реалий в цикле рассказов А. Конан Дойля о Шерлоке Холмсе и их репрезентации в русских переводах. Отмечается, что текст указанных произведений насыщен лексикой, конкретно связанной с особенностями жизни и быта викторианской Англии, с одной стороны, и отражающей национально-культурную специфику страны, сохранившуюся до настоящего времени, - с другой. Указанное обстоятельство требует от переводчиков как наличия соответствующих фоновых знаний, так и умения передавать их наиболее оптимальным для отечественного читателя образом.
The article gives an overview of some aspects of words-realia functioning in a cycle of stories about Sherlock Holmes written by Arthur Conan Doyle and their representation in Russian variants of translation. It is also stated that the text of the stories is rich in vocabulary denoting the peculiarities of life and culture directly associated with the Victorian England on the one hand, and words linked with the cultural identity of the country preserved up to the present time on the other.
