Цель работы – рассмотреть проблему метафорической концептуализации эмоций при помощи метафоры обуви в произведении Дж. С. Фоера «Жутко громко и запредельно близко».
Процедура и методы. Предварительно изучив социальные и культурные особенности, формирующие представления о вербализации эмоционального опыта при помощи образа обуви, автор проводит обзор метафорического репертуара Дж. С. Фоера. В состав методики вошёл дескриптивный метод и метод сплошной выборки.
Результаты. Метафора обуви является достаточно продуктивным конструктом для описания различных эмоциональных состояний в рамках романа «Жутко громко и запредельно близко». Исследуемая метафора обуви часто применяется Дж. С. Фоером для описания негативных чувств и переживаний.
Теоретическая и практическая значимость заключается в углублении знания о неконвенциональных авторских метафорах для описания эмоционального состояния, а также применении результатов исследования в вузовской и послевузовской практике, в научных исследованиях по английскому языку, стилистике, теории текста и теории когнитивной метафоры.
Aim. The study focuses on the problem of metaphorical conceptualization of emotions by means of the boot metaphor. The analysis is based on the book of J. S. Foer “Extremely loud and incredibly close”.
Methodology. The paper examines the social and cultural context that shapes the interpretation of shoes in general and help to verbalize emotions by using the boot metaphor. The study comments on the metaphorical repertoire of J. S. Foer. The methodology includes descriptive and continuous sampling methods.
Results. The author concludes that the boot metaphor is rather productive for describing various emotional states within the novel “Extremely loud and incredibly close”. Such boot metaphors are often used by J. S. Foer to describe negative feelings.
Research implications lie in the enriching knowledge about unconventional author's metaphors for describing the emotional state. The findings may be used in university and postgraduate studies as well as in research of the English language, stylistics, text theory, and the theory of cognitive metaphor.
