Цель: исследование тенденций, наблюдаемых в области создания иллюстрированных и иллюстративных словарей в современной английской лексикографии.

Процедура и методы

Процедура и методы. Изучены теоретические работы по учебной лексикографии, графическим иллюстрациям в словарях, иллюстрированным и иллюстративным справочникам. Рассмотрены категории иллюстративных и иллюстрированных словарей. Проведён лексикографический анализ ряда справочников.

Результаты

Результаты. Доказана важность включения графических изображений в микроструктуру словарей. Обоснована актуальность создания иллюстрированных и иллюстративных справочников, среди которых терминологические издания различных предметных областей, словари отдельных слоёв лексики, справочники, посвящённые кинофраншизам и др.

Теоретическая и/или практическая значимость исследования заключаются в раскрытии потенциала использования иллюстрированных и иллюстративных словарей для решения пользовательских целей, среди которых обучение, осуществление перевода, получение новых знаний.

Aim

Aim. The purpose of this research is the study of the tendencies observed in the field of creation of illustrated and picture dictionaries in modern English lexicography.

Methodology

Methodology. Theoretical works devoted to the problems of educational lexicography, graphic illustrations in dictionaries, illustrated and picture dictionaries have been studied. Various types of illustrated and picture reference works have been taken into account. The lexicographic analysis of several dictionaries has been carried out.

Results

Results. The importance of including graphic images in the microstructure of dictionaries is proven. The relevance of creating illustrated and picture reference books is substantiated, among which one can single out terminological dictionaries of various subject fields, dictionaries of different vocabulary layers, reference works devoted to popular film franchises, etc.

Research implications

Research implications. The theoretical and practical significance of the study lies in identifying the potential of using illustrated and visual dictionaries to solve user problems, including learning, translation, and acquisition of new knowledge.
