Статья посвящается обоснованию того, что в основе наименования животных в карачаево-балкарском языке главным образом лежит характеристика их пола, возраста, окрас- ки и масти, издаваемого звука, места обитания, строения тела и его частей, особенности питания, периода активной жизнедеятельности, народные поверья и суеверия, а также символическая ха- рактеристика.
