Статья посвящена рассмот- рению основных идей фонологической теории известного британского лингвиста и востоковеда Дж. Р. Ферса, научная деятельность которого тра- диционно относится к середине ХХ века. Ферс - основатель и идейный вдохновитель Лондонской лингвистической школы, направления британс- кого структурализма. Большое внимание уделено в статье истокам формирования концепции лин- гвиста и связи его фонологических идей с тео- рией британского языковеда Генри Суита. Дается определение понятия «просодия», рассмотрены преимущества и недостатки фонологических взглядов Ферса.
The article is devoted to review and analysis of Firths basic ideas in phonology. John Rupert Firth is a famous British linguist and orientalist. Whose activity took place in the middle of the XXth century. Firth was the founder of London school of Linguistics, a subdivision of British structuralism. A great deal of attention is paid in the article to the roots of Firths theory and connection of his phonological ideas with the theory of Henry Sweet, a famous British scientist. A definition of the term prosody is given, advantages and disadvantages of Firths phonological ideas are discussed.
