<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article is devoted to the socioрhonic factor
in sound variation. The author defines and analyses mechanisms
of linguistic change, considered in the context of a linguistic
community; and conducts the experimental phonetic
research. The article views the results of the research which
allowed to estimate the degree of comprehension shown by
students while working on the texts of different styles and
read by native speakers of different ages. The research made
it possible to discover the most complicated moments in the
work with the phonetic material.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>социолингвистика</kwd><kwd>варьирование звуковых единиц</kwd><kwd>"принятое произношение"</kwd><kwd>социальный статус</kwd><kwd>возрастная группа</kwd><kwd>фонетическое исследование</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>sociolinguistics</kwd><kwd>sound variation</kwd><kwd>RP</kwd><kwd>social status</kwd><kwd>age group</kwd><kwd>phonetic study</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Апресян Ю.Д., Медникова Э.М., Петрова А.В.
